New technology helps spread word of possible gunman on ASU campusPosted: Updated:
TEMPE - Around 3 p.m. the reverse 911 system on the campus of Arizona State University alerted students to a police situation taking place on the university campus.
Police responded to an anonymous tip of an individual with a gun in the Apache Parking Structure.
The alert from ASU told students to stay clear of the parking garage.
The parking structure was closed and a car-to-car search for the gunman was conducted.
No gunman was found and no threat was located, so the parking structure was returned to normal.
For police the incident turned out to be little more than a false alarm, but for the university, it turned out to be an opportunity to test their ability to get the message to the students through technology they use.
