According to Peoria police spokesman Mike Tellef, the SUV was southbound on 85th Avenue near Olive Avenue when it failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled out in front of the bus. The two vehicles collided.

A car was also involved in the collision.

The driver of the SUV is a maintenance worker for the school district. He was flown to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

The bus driver suffered a minor leg injury and the driver of the car was not injured.

Tellef said no students were on the bus.

Police are investigating whether the sun's glare contributed to the accident.
