MESA - Dozens turned out for the second night in a row to remember two kids who were killed by their mother.
The mourning process continues as a crowd of almost 100 gather to remember Nick and Ryan Mullaly once again.
Mesa police said on Monday that they did find a suicide note at the Mullaly family home, but no word on what that note said. Everyone from the 12-year-old kids to their parents and school administrators are still asking themselves why this happened.
Their deaths is something most young teenagers are trying to make sense of as they come together to grieve. Their friends, Nick and Ryan were just 12 and 15 years old when they were shot to death this weekend allegedly by their own mother, 50-year-old Susan Mullaly, who then turned the gun on herself.
By many accounts it is a tragedy no one saw coming. Matt Devlin, their school principal, says, “We didn’t see any sign of this, no we certainly didn’t.”
Many say Susan seemed like a great mom. Outside of the teens’ Pennington Drive home, the hugs continue, candles burn on, and tributes continue to pour out.
As Nick’s 7th-grade classmates held a vigil, many wearing green, his favorite color, Ryan was being remembered on the tennis courts. He was the schools No. 1 player.
Extra grief counselors were brought into Rhodes Junior High to help students cope with something that will not be easy.
