PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police officer shot and killed a 23-year-old man who ran over another officer during a chase early Sunday.
The police officers were responding to a call about a burglary in progress when they spotted a vehicle that matched the description given by the caller. As the officers approached the black Ford, the driver fled and ran over one of them.
Police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill said the other officer, who was also in the line of danger, shot at the man.
The man, whose name has not been released, was found around the corner. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer who was run over was hospitalized with a broken leg.
Hill did not immediately release the names of the two officers involved in the incident.
