Live and Learn: BACON! Its not just for breakfast anymorePosted: Updated:
Wild and Wacky things are being done with bacon these days! Take a look in the segment at that huge piece of chocolate cake with bacon between the layers and topped with crunchy pieces on top. I carried that all the way back from San Diego to show you!
Everywhere I’ve gone, something is being done with bacon – from dessert to drinks – foodies are going crazy for it. Here’s what I tried and some sources for the pre-made stuff!
Bacon Maple Chocolate Chip Cookies
Make your favorite chocolate chip cookies. I must admit, I used the pre-made tub-of-dough from the grocery store with good results.
Once the dough is made, I tossed in about 1/2 cup of crispy cooked bacon crumbles and mixed it in thoroughly – just like you would chocolate chips – you can use more or less to taste. Bake as directed on the package or recipe. When cooled frost liberally with the Maple Glaze and top it with a small piece of bacon (about 1 inch).
2 cups powdered sugar
1 Tbsp. maple extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Mix all in a bowl, add enough water to make a thick glaze – about 3 tablespoons. Add it slowly as it thins quickly.
Use thick sliced bacon, and toss it in brown sugar. Place on a rack on a cookie sheet. Cook at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes or until cooked through.
Lay bacon flat in a sheet pan in a single layer. Roast on middle rack in a pre-heated 400-degree oven. I was shocked at how good this turned out!
Chocolate Dipped Bacon
This is just like dipping strawberries only using bacon. I purchased a container of that dipping chocolate found in the produce department of most grocery stores.
Fry up some bacon so that it’s very crispy. Drain on paper towels and cool it. Melt the chocolate as directed and then just dip the bacon in the chocolate and allow it to harden. State Fair food all the way!
Bacon Chocolate Candy Bar Here’s where you can find ’s Milk Chocolate Bacon Bar and more gourmet chocolate or Haute Chocolate as they call it.

Ah bacon - like I said it’s more than a food, it’s a lifestyle!!
