The number of school resource officers has been cut from six to three.

Now, the three officers will split their time between Scottsdale's six middle schools.

The cuts have saved the Scottsdale Unified School District more than half a million dollars since the district pays most of the officers' salaries.

Police say parents shouldn't be worried about the school resource officer not being there because a regular beat officer will respond if anything happens.
