PEORIA -- Police say the suspect in a barricade situation at a Peoria business has been found dead.
UNCUT: Barricade suspect found dead - According to the Peoria Police Department, a suspect was found dead after barricading himself inside a business.
According to Mike Tellef with the Peoria Police Department, a male subject entered a tanning salon in the area of 83rd Avenue and Lake Pleasan Parkway at about 10 a.m. and assaulted an employee. During the assault, the suspect's handgun went off.
The employee was able to escape with no injuries.
Believing the suspect was still inside the business, police evacuated nearby stores as a precaution.
In addition, Sunrise Mountain High School was on lockdown for a short time.
Tellef said at about 2:15 p.m. that SWAT officers went into the tanning salon and found the suspect dead.
Owners of the evacuated stores have been allowed to return.
Police have not released any information about the suspect or what led up to the inital assault and subsequent barricade situation.
