2 historic homes burn in Central Phoenix - Fire tore through two historic homes in Central Phoenix early Monday morning.
Intense flames lit up the sky as crews arrived on scene the Third and Roosevelt streets at about 3 a.m. More firefighters were called out to try and keep the fire from spreading.
Flames tore through one home and then jumped to a second home in back.
Firefighters said both homes were vacant. Because there was nobody inside either structure, firefighters were able to go defensive right away.
"Right from the get-go, the fire was so intense that they weren't able to enter the structure," said Capt. Hugh Chase of the Phoenix Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
