Yuma police save woman from kidnapping attemptPosted: Updated:
YUMA -- Yuma police say they've arrested a man who kidnapped a woman from her home early Friday and led officers on a chase before crashing her car.
Police spokesman Sgt. Clint Norred says 32-year-old Andy Camarena assaulted the woman in her garage at about 1:30 a.m. She tried to lock herself in her car, but he forced his way inside, hit the automatic garage door opener and sped out of the garage.
Camarena nearly hit an officer walking up to the home in response to a call for help. The victim was still inside as the car sped away with police in pursuit. Camarena crashed the car into a police cruiser and ran away.
He was found unconscious within minutes and arrested. The woman wasn't injured.
Norred says Camarena knew the woman, but their relationship is unclear. He was booked on charges including kidnapping, carjacking, aggravated assault and unlawful flight.
