CHANDLER -- When a Chandler man's dishwasher burned up, he didn't think he would have a problem because he had an extended warranty.

But in the end, he says he had to contact 3 On Your Side for help.

The dishwasher isn't new. In fact, it was around 4 years old when it burned up and broke down recently.

But Jeff Sears says he had a hard time getting that dishwasher replaced.

"My wife and I noticed a really bad smoky smell in the house and weren't sure what was catching fire," Sears said.

Sears says he couldn't find what was on fire so he did the only thing he could think of -- he cut the power to the house.

"I went out to the circuit breaker, opened up the circuit breaker and turned off the circuit breaker," he said.

But Sears says that smell of smoke just wouldn't go away and he never could figure out where it was coming from.

"My wife got up the next morning and found that the dishwasher wasn't working," he said.

After inspecting the dishwasher, Sears realized it was the source of the smoky smell.

Luckily, Sears says he purchased a GE service contract, kind of an extended warranty, when he bought the dishwasher four years ago.

So he thought he wouldn't have a problem getting it fixed.

"I called and asked GE to come out and they came out on the 18th, he opened it up and said, 'This is unrepairable," Sears said.

But after nearly a month, Sears says he still has that broken, smoky dishwasher.

"I've probably called 10 times at least in the last three-week period and still nothing," Sears said.

That's when Sears contacted 3 On Your Side.

"Now it's not working, there's a big hole burnt out in the control panel and I can't get any response from them," he said.

3 On Your Side contacted General Electric and after we did, Sears received a phone call saying he would be getting a $500 check toward the purchase of a new dishwasher.

A company representative tells 3 On Your Side that they intended on resolving the issue before we got involved, but Sears sees it much differently, claiming that things only started to move after he contacted 3 On Your Side.
