S' BistroPosted: Updated:
Mesa has its first chef-driven, independent restaurant, thanks to this charming sliver of a place, decorated in an Old World style reminiscent of Italy.
Chef-owner Brian Banasek's straightforward New American menu features classics such as French onion soup and butter-drenched Tiger prawns, sautéed with garlic and lemon, as well as more modern constructs -- maybe filet mignon with bourbon demi-glace, chestnut-yam puree, red onion jam and wild mushroom ragout or brined pork loin with bacon-cheese polenta and greens.
Selections change frequently, but if you see the sautéed strawberry dessert, served in a chocolate tulip with whipped cream and caramel, by all means, order it. It's simple but fabulous.
And if you plan on attending an event at the Mesa Arts Center, call ahead for reservations and info on Banasek's special "theater" menu. For now, S' Bistro is BYO.
Dinner is served Tuesday-Saturday.
