5 To 9 Servings a Day?!

Posted: Updated:

So do you get your 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day? That's the recommended amount according to the National Food guide Pyramid. Sure I've heard that somewhere before, yet I was definitely not getting my share of fruits and veggies.

But I'm taking note now, in an effort to eat healthier these days. This after realizing I have gained 10 pounds since moving to Arizona two years ago! I'm not afraid to admit it, we all have our shortcomings, right? Anyway, put that extra 10 pounds on a 5'2" frame, and it starts showing! I've come to accept that I will never be that stick skinny girl, it's not in my gene pool. In my family, we are all hips and behinds! But still, one of my resolutions this year was to be healthier. Just recently, my husband and I finally joined a gym. We've been going several days a week and I'm watching what I'm eating. Being out in the field for work with not much time for a lunch break, I often picked up fast-food (fries are my weakness)! Ask any of our 3TV photographers-- they loved working with me because they knew I would eat anything! I'm proud to say I've been clean of french fries, cheeseburgers, etc. for about 2 weeks. It was hard the first few days, but now, it's actually not that bad. I now always have some fruit handy for a snack, so I don't break down and grab a bag of Cheetoes! I've even given up diet Coke! This was no easy task since I drank the stuff like it was water. I still have to have my cup of coffee in the morning though. By the way, yesterday, I had 7 servings of fruits and veggies! I'm not going overboard though. When my sweet-tooth starts aching, I reach for a treat (Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches are great and not too unhealthy)! I figure, baby steps.. baby steps. Happy healthy eating!
