Car plows through 2 brick walls, shed; alcohol, speed likely factors

GLENDALE -- An alleged drunk driver and his passenger are in the hospital after crashing a car through the block wall and into a shed in the backyard of a Glendale home.

It happened early Thursday morning near 63rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Police said the driver was speeding and apparently lost control, causing the car to jump the curb. The Mustang slammed into a wall, but was going so fast that the wall didn’t stop it. The car continued on, plowing through another brick wall and into a backyard shed.

Witnesses said emergency crews had to cut the driver from the car. He and his passenger were taken to the hospital. Their injuries reportedly were not life-threatening.

While the 77-year-old wheelchair-bound woman who lives in the Glendale home was not hurt, neighbors said she was shaken up.

"Pure panic," said Mark Williams. "She's here by herself. ... She's here with her loyal dog, and kind of panicked. She called and we came running."

Investigators believe both alcohol and speed might have been factors in this wreck.
