City employees could soon get 12 days off without pay

A memo went out late Monday from Tucson City Manager Mike Hein. The memo is just a proposal, but the city is struggling to find ways to deal with a projected $30 million deficit.

Under the plan, every city employee -- except those who work in the fire and police departments, or in the 911 communication center -- would take 12 days off during the year -- unpaid.

It amounts to a five percent pay cut.
