Rosemont mine review group idea scrappedPosted: Updated:
The formation of a public "working group" to review the environmental analysis for the proposed Rosemont copper mine has been halted by the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution. The Institute determined that the working group concept, first proposed by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, would not be appropriate in this case.
Since March, the Forest Service has conducted nine public meetings and received more than 11,000 comments about the proposed mine. The next public comment period will collect input about the draft Environmental Impact Statement which will be published next fall. Once it is published, additional public hearings will be held as well.
