Arizona named a bicycle-friendly statePosted: Updated:
Arizona has been named the third most bicycle-friendly state in the country by the League of American Bicyclists. According to the league, Arizona received the high ranking because it's one of the few states to promote protection of cyclists through a three-foot minimum passing law, was one of the early adopters of a bike-friendly rumble strip policy, and has included cycling in the statewide plan to reduce carbon emissions.
The only states ranked ahead of Arizona on the list are Washington and Wisconsin. This marks the first time that a ranking system has been established for bicycle friendly states. 84 communities in 31 states have already been designated Bicycle Friendly Communities. Tucson is one of 7 Arizona cities on that list.
