School zone traffic enforcement increasedPosted: Updated:
With school underway in many districts and about to start in others, the Pima County Sheriff's Department is reminding drivers that it will be conducting increased enforcement in and around schools and school zones during August and throughout the school year. Deputies will be on the lookout for motorists who do not stop for school buses, speed in school zones, and fail to stop for pedestrians in crossing zones.
The speed limit in a school zone is 15 miles per hour. Drivers are also prohibited from passing another vehicle going in the same direction while going through a school zone. Parents who drive students to and from school must pull off the road and stop their vehicle on the side of the roadway before dropping off or picking up passengers.
