Students saw alleged shooter with gun at schoolPosted: Updated:
A letter has been sent to parents of students at Empire High School in Vail informing them that the student who allegedly shot and killed his step-sister on Saturday, July 26, brought a gun to the school the previous week. The school says some students did see Sheldon Pruitt with a gun and a knife, both at school and on the bus, but they didn't report it. If they had, it's possible that 14-year old Alexandria Salinas would still be alive.
District officials agree, and emphasize that the shooting did not occur on school grounds. However at Empire High School, the memory of Alex Salinas is something many will never forget. The Vail School District does have a hotline for students to anonymously report if a student has brought a gun to school, and officials hope students use this option in the future.
