DUI Task Force arrests 63

The Southern Arizona DUI Task Force made a total of 63 drunken driving arrests during the three-day holiday weekend. Fifty-eight of those arrested were charged with misdemeanors, while the other five face felony charges.

The Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force in the Sierra Vista area reported that when they set up a sobriety checkpoint August 30 on Highway 92, only two drivers were arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges. A total of 1122 southbound and 701 northbound vehicles were stopped during the operation. Task Force officials say they hope the low arrest count means that drivers are staying home, using designated drivers, or taking alternate means of transportation when alcohol is involved.
