Forest Service proposes copper mine citizens' work group

Posted: Updated:

The proposal by a Canadian copper company to build an open-pit mine in the Santa Rita Mountains has been controversial since people in the area first learned about it. The Forest Service has gathered input on what it will do to the environment, but now another group is stepping in.

11,000 comments were given to the Forest Service regarding the mine. About one-third of them, the most unique, will be taken into consideration. The proposed work group would get to read and analyze them.
