Break in murder case?
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced on Monday the arrests of three suspects in the killing of Douglas Engstler that took place less than a week ago at Englster's house in an isolated area of Cave Creek.
Sheriff's deputies responded to Engstler's 3,000-square-foot home on Tuesday, August 25. The victim's son found him dead and called 911. Engstler was reportedly found with his hands and feet bound with electrical tape. Detectives were able to trace the suspects with a credit card belonging to Engstler that was used by two of the suspects at a nearby gas station.
Four days after the murder, on August 29th, deputies arrested 32-year-old Robert Thomas Pleikhardt and 43-year-old Kathleen Ann Madden whom both admitted to their involvement in the death of Engstler. On Sunday night deputies also arrested 23-year-old Corion Babers.
All three suspects have been booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on first-degree murder, burglary, and theft charges.
Ten murders have been reported in the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office's jurisdiction this year compared to the 17 reported by this time in 2008.
