On August 25, 2009 Police Detectives arrested Martin Anthony Montano, age 42, of El Mirage AZ, for a string of robberies that began in April 2009.? In a collaborative effort, Detectives from Surprise, Glendale, Phoenix, Peoria, El Mirage and the Maricopa Sheriff's Office joined forces to investigate similar robberies in their jurisdictions.? Detectives advised that Montano was responsible for 12 robberies; three in Surprise, two in Glendale, one in Phoenix, one in Peoria, and five in the Sheriff's Office's jurisdictional areas.? Montano had robbed several businesses including; Arby's, Walgreen's, McDonalds, and Subway, all at gun point.
Montano was arrested on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, near his home in El Mirage, AZ, without incident.? Police located what they believe to be the firearm and clothing used in the robberies after serving a search warrant on Montano's residence. ?"This was a great collaborative effort by all of the departments involved" stated Detective Sergeant Greg Welch.? Surprise Police charged Montano with three counts of Armed Robbery and three counts of Aggravated Assault (all felonies) for his crimes in Surprise.? Montano was booked into the Maricopa County Jail, where he awaits additional Armed Robbery charges from the other jurisdictions.
