Arson fires investigated in north Tempe

TEMPE -- The Tempe police and fire departments are investigating five suspicious fires set over the past month.

Investigators found the fires to be caused by arson. They were detected early and extinguished by fire crews.

Police say that left undiscovered, all of these fires could have caused death and major property damage.

The fires were set near the northwest corner of Scottsdale and McKellips roads on July 11 at 2:30 p.m., July 24 at 1 a.m., and Aug. 23 at 12:30 a.m., 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Authorities are asking for the public's help to find those responsible for the fires.

Information leading to the arrest of an individual or individuals for these crimes can result in an award of up to $10,000.
