UPDATE: Body found in El Mirage identified; cause of death unknown

UPDATE -- Friday, Aug. 21:

EL MIRAGE -- A body found along the banks of the Agua Fria riverbed in El Mirage last month has been positively identified as Gary Wayne Morrell, 44.

The manner and cause of death are still under investigation and the El Mirage Police Department is asking for the public's help.

Due to the suspicious circumstances of this death, Silent Witness is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.

Body found along banks of Agua Fria riverbed in El Mirage -- July 20

EL MIRAGE -- El Mirage police detectives are investigating after a body was found along the banks of the Agua Fria riverbed early Monday morning.

At approximately 1:41 a.m., Youngtown police officers were out with a male subject on an unrelated matter near 113th and Grand avenues. That person told the officers that he had seen a body near the west bank of the riverbed.

The location was determined to be within the El Mirage city limits and the El Mirage Police Department was notified.

Police say the body appears to have been there for some time.

There is no information about the identity of the body or cause of death.

Detectives are processing the scene at 14500 N. 115th Ave.
