Man with knife hits shoe store employee during robbery

GLENDALE -- Police officers are looking for a suspect in the armed robbery of a Glendale shoe store Monday morning.


UNCUT: Police say robber hit shoe store employee - Police say a man with a knife hit an employee during a robbery at a Payless ShoeSource Monday morning.

Glendale police Officer Karen Gerardo said a black male with a large build entered the Payless ShoeSource at 43rd and Peoria avenues at approximately 10:15 a.m.

The suspect talked with the clerk for a short time and then demanded that she open the cash register. He took an undisclosed amount of money from the register then displayed a knife and told her to open the safe.

Gerardo said the employee, who was alone in the store, was unable to get the safe open and the suspect hit her in the face and then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches tall with a large or heavy build. He was wearing dark clothing.

Gerardo said the employee was shaken up but is OK.
