Phoenix mayor in D.C. to talk gangs - Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon is in Washington, D.C. today to talk to President Obama's staff about how Phoenix tackles gang issues.
President Barack Obama invited Gordon to explain how Phoenix tackles gang issues.
Phoenix was recently recognized nationally as one of the best law-enforcement agencies when it comes to dealing with gangs.
As he was leaving for D.C. yesterday, Gordon said that while Phoenix does still have gangs, the city does not suffer from them as severely as other communities.
"There are gangs here, but they know our police officers are after them," he said. "They're moving around and finding it easier not to be doing most of their activities in the Valley."
Gordan will be discussing the gang issue with the attorney general and several other mayors.
Additional stimulus funding is also on today's agenda.
Gordon is expected to be back in Phoenix tonight.
