Crime up, homicides down in MesaPosted: Updated:
MESA -- Nearly all categories of violent crime in Mesa rose in July compared with the previous month.
Violent crime is on the rise in Mesa - Most violent crime is on the rise in Mesa with the exception of domestic violence assaults and homicides.
However, Mesa police say domestic violence assaults and homicides declined.
Between July 6 and Aug. 2, nearly every category of violent crime went up including aggravated assaults, robberies, rapes, commercial and residential burglaries and auto theft.
The Mesa Police Department said that overall, crime rates are down 12 percent this year compared with the same time last year.
So far, Mesa has experienced seven homicides this year, the latest occurring on Aug. 13. A year ago, Mesa had 12 homicides.
