In-N-Out Burger secret menu uncoveredPosted: Updated:
Years ago when the California burger icon In-N-Out Burger came to the , I heard about their so-called " secret menu." Items that weren't listed on their simple menu but that loyal patron knew they could order usually by unusual secret names. I'd heard about ordering "animal style" or a 2 x 4 burger or "protein style." I didn't feel comfortable asking them what it all meant, I guess I assumed that if you're so un-cool to have to ask you aren't cool enough to order a secret item anyway.
In-N-Out Burger secret menu uncovered - Years ago when the California burger icon In-N-Out Burger came to the Arizona, I heard about their so-called "In-N-Out Burger secret menu."
Well, years later my curiosity took control and I had to find out what the secret menu was all about. Then that led me to doing research about any other secret menus might be out there. Plus, I wanted to see if I could actually get a secret item easily or not. Now, I know in the dine-in restaurant business, chefs are so willing to make you something that you may not see on the menu - but remember we're talking fast food here - establishments that rely on streamlined procedures and products to delivery your food fast. So, even if I couldn't get something, I could totally understand but I had to give it a try.
In-N-Out Burger is truly set up to take a secret menu item as though it was on the menu. They MUST train their employees about the key items because when I ordered it was just like I was ordering off the menu board. Not even a hesitation or a flinch and I sailed through the drive-thru with my Animal Style single in hand.
Most popular items on the In-N-Out Burger secret menu:
? The Animal Style Burger with a mustard cooked burger, additional pickles, extra sauce and grilled onions. Bill loved it!
? Protein Style Burger - Any of their burgers wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun.
? Fries: Animal Style - French fries with sauce, grilled onions and cheese on top.
? Fries: Well-Done - French fries cooked a little longer than normal to make them crispy.
? Neopolitan Shake - Strawberry, vanilla and chocolate all swirled together not blended.
? A 2 x 4 Burger - two beef patties and two slices of cheese. Word has it you can also go up from there - a 3 x 3, a 4 x 4 - the urban legend of a 100 x 100 stands unproven and would cost a pretty penny I would assume.
And that's just the beginning!

I also learned that Jamba Juice had its own secret menu so I searched online for a popular item not on the menu board, popped in with great success as I ordered a "White Gummy."
Yes, it tasted just like a white gummy bear candy. Turns out there are about 25 - 30 smoothies that they'll make that aren't on the menu.
I also had success getting a quesadilla at Chipotle, a pizza sub at Subway, and a "short" beverage at Starbucks.
If you want even more details, just type "secret menu" into Google or your search engine of choice. Who knew?
I have to admit I got a little feeling of being a tad cooler at In-N-Out - being one of the "Insiders." But keep in mind, a menu is up there for a reason so if a particular eating-place can't make your request respect that. It's just a little bit of fun!
