UPDATE: Arrest warrant issued for Scottsdale mom in Boise kidnappingPosted: Updated:
BOISE -- Police in Idaho have issued an arrest warrant for a Scottsdale woman wanted in connection with the kidnapping of her 7-year-old son in Boise.
Amber Alert issued for Idaho boy; mom lives in Scottsdale - Police in Boise, Idaho, have issued an Amber Alert for a 7-year-old boy whose mother lives in Scottsdale and might be involved in his disappearance.
Police say the boy, Luca Principali, was taken yesterday afternoon from the Boise apartment where he lives with his father and sister. The father was not home at the time.
According to police, the suspect -- a man -- knocked on the door and asked for Luca by name. The sister heard Luca scream, but when she got to the door, both he and the suspect were gone. An Amber Alert has been issued for the boy.
At this point, investigators believe the suspect might be working with the mother, Ekaterina Principali of Scottsdale.
According to court documents, Luca's father filed a domestic case against Principali, 38, Tuesday. The Scottsdale woman was in Boise yesterday for a custody hearing.
An arrest warrant has now been issued for Principali. The charge is second-degree kidnapping.
"This, and other recent cases, highlight a very important fact," said Boise Police Cpt. Gary Compton. "Although we may feel that the greatest danger to our children comes from strangers, it is far more likely that someone we know, and may even be related to, is involved in incidents of this kind. Getting to know your neighbors and speaking with your kids about what to do in an emergency is always a good idea."
Luca, who also goes by the nickname Goober, is described as 4 feet tall, 60 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing a Darth Vader T-shirt, camouflage knee-length shorts, and had bare feet.
Police describe the suspect as a light complected man, about 45 years old, 5 feet 11, 190 pounds, with short, light brown hair that's thinning on top. He's also said to have a full beard, and was wearing a red, purple, white and green striped T-shirt and blue jeans.
Police believe the suspect is driving a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country with the California license plate number 6GQC981.
