DPS officers seize 1,200+ lbs. of pot in 5 traffic stops

PHOENIX - Over 1,200 pounds of marijuana were found in five different cars.


Officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol say they made 49 traffic stops on Monday and 5 of those stops resulted in "significant marijuana seizures." All five cars were searched after officers detected they may be involved in criminal activity.

A total of 1,232 pounds of pot were seized by DPS officers. The drugs had a street value of $675,000.

Detectives from the Santa Cruz Task Force are conducting follow up investigations on the smugglers. The following is a breakdown of the arrests and vehicles involved: -2007 Nissan station wagon with 459 pounds of marijuana -2005 Mercury four door sedan with 371 pounds of marijuana -1997 Oldsmobile four door sedan with 316 pounds of marijuana -2000 Buick sedan with 29 pounds of marijuana -2003 Chrysler four door sedan with 57 pounds of marijuana.
