Sullivan triples twice, Mets salvage 6-4 victoryPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Cory Sullivan tripled twice and Gary Sheffield had two singles in his return to the lineup, helping the New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 on Wednesday and avoid a three-game sweep.
Fernando Tatis had three singles, driving in one run and scoring another, for the Mets, who scored twice on wild pitches.
Diamondbacks reliever Jon Rauch and manager A.J. Hinch were thrown out of the game by plate umpire Mike Everitt after the Mets scored twice with two outs in eighth to take the lead.
The 6-foot-10 Rauch was livid over Everitt's strike zone and tossed Hinch aside in his confrontation with the umpire. After Rauch left, Hinch continued to argue and was tossed for the second time in six games.
