Driver runs red lights, tries to hit police cars during pursuitPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT -- Prescott police arrested a driver who ran nine red lights and attempted to hit two officers' vehicles.
A woman from Wilhoit contacted the Tribal Police Department to report that Michael Francis, 33, of Prescott, was following her.
The suspect did not stop for the Tribal Police and the Prescott Police Department was contacted.
As officers tried to stop Francis, he intentionally attempted to swerve into two police vehicles, according to the Prescott Police Department. The officers had to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
During the pursuit, police say Francis ran nine red lights and drove erratically to avoid the officers.
Officers used tire spikes to disable the vehicle in the 1300 block of Iron Springs Road.
Francis was taken into custody without incident and processed for DUI. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .215 percent, which is more than two and a half times the legal limit.
Francis was transported and booked into the Yavapai County Camp Verde Jail for two counts of aggravated assault, felony flight, extreme DUI and reckless driving.
Francis is being held on a $15,000 bond pending an Aug. 11 court hearing.
