Arizona awarded $14M for new charter schoolsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Department of Education was awarded $14 million from the U.S. Department of Education to open new charter schools that will offer rigorous academic programs.
"Increasing the number of high-quality charter schools that will focus on rigor has always been a priority for me," Arizona Schools Chief Tom Horne said in a news release. "This money will provide a great opportunity to improve student achievement with high academic standards."
The Arizona Department of Education will partner with the State Board for Charter Schools in implementing the grant program.
"This is a win-win for students, parents and the state," Horne said. "Providing quality education tied to school choice increases the opportunity for student success."
