Rodent knocks out power to thousands in Tucson

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON -- A rodent with enough power to take out a substation left 7,600 Tucson Electric customers without service Tuesday.

TEP says the rodent somehow found its way into a substation in the Midvale Park area on Tucson's southwest side.

A little after 1 p.m., a transformer failed.

The area of the power outage extended as far south as Hermans Road, Camino de Oeste to the west, Irvington Road to the north and Nogales Highway on the east.

All power was back on by 5 p.m.
