Moyer, Phillies defeat Arizona 6-2Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Jamie Moyer pitched 6-and-two-thirds shutout innings and Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 last night.
Jimmy Rollins, Raul Ibanez, Pedro Feliz and Paul Bako each drove in a run as the Phillies stretched their lead in the NL East to a season-high seven games over Atlanta and Florida.
The defending world champions improved to a majors-best 30-15 on the road.
The 46-year-old Moyer worked out of jams in each of the first three innings, baffling the Diamondbacks with a mix of 80 mph fastballs and even softer changeups.
Jon Garland took the loss for Arizona.
Game 2 of the three-game series with Philadelphia is set for 6:40 tonight at Chase Field.
