Brewer signs bills for partial fix of Ariz. budgetPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Gov. Jan Brewer has signed three bills to restore public school funding and the state's eligibility for federal stimulus funding.
Brewer on Wednesday also signed a fourth bill. It limits the daily expense pay for legislators during the ongoing special session that Brewer called for further work on the state budget.
Brewer's vetoes of parts of the budget approved by the Legislature eliminated funding for K-12 public schools and also threw the state out of compliance for billions of dollars of stimulus money.
She wanted to increase spending for some services and to get lawmakers back to the negotiating table to consider her proposed sales tax increase.
The spending bill she signed Wednesday increases school funding by about $500 million.
