Official says Douglas school complying with law

TUCSON -- The head of a public charter school in Douglas says it remains in compliance with Arizona law in educating only Arizona residents, despite a video suggesting otherwise.

Executive Director Jose Frisby of the Omega Alpha Academy says every student has presented a form demonstrating residency that the Arizona Department of Education approved.

He says two audits by both the education department and the state Board for Charter Schools found the academy in full compliance.

An education department video online shows children in school uniforms being driven across the border to and from the academy.

State schools chief Tom Horne says it has cost taxpayers at least $300,000 to educate nonresident students from Mexico attending the school.
