Suspected illegal immigrants caught, haven't eaten for 2 days - More than two dozen suspected illegal immigrants are in custody after an early morning traffic stop.
GILA RIVER INDIAN COMMUNITY -- More than two dozen suspected illegal immigrants are in custody after an early morning traffic stop.
A van was pulled over shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 10 near Wild Horse Pass.
According to Department of Public Safety, dozens of people jumped out and took off, scattering in the desert off the freeway.
Officers caught up with many of them, taking 28 people into custody. DPS said they're looking for as many as eight more people.
DPS officers on the scene said some of the suspected undocumented immigrants had not eaten in two days and had not had any water for at least a day.
Investigators with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were called out to the scene.
The situation has not had a big impact on traffic.
