3,900 Pounds of pot seized from stolen cars by border agents

TUCSON - The following is a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

Tucson Sector agents working surveillance northeast of the Sasabe, Arizona Port of Entry intercepted two stolen vehicles carrying 3,900 pounds of marijuana.

Early yesterday morning, surveillance teams patrolling in the Altar Valley detected a vehicle illegally crossing the United States border near Tres Bellotas Ranch. The agents located the tire tracks and followed the tracks to a large wash.In the wash, the agents discovered two vehicles containing over 3,900 lbs of marijuana. The agents searched the area, but were unable to locate any suspects associated with the marijuana.

The two vehicles, a 2004 Yukon Denali and a 2007 Ford F-150 had been reported stolen.The marijuana, with an estimated street value of over $3,169,000, will be processed and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency.

This type of coordination and the utilization of resources and technology continue to aid agents of the Tucson Sector in securing our borders. For Fiscal Year 2008, the Tucson Sector has seized over 770, 000 lbs. of marijuana.
