After all the trade rumors, Suns to stick with team through season

PHOENIX -- All those trade rumors swirling around the Phoenix Suns came to nothing.

Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire are staying in the desert, at least through the season.

Yesterday's trade deadline came and went with the Suns standing pat.

There were reports that the Cleveland Cavaliers had made a pitch for O'Neal, offering Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic by Suns general manager Steve Kerr called those talks "nothing substantial."

Kerr praised Suns owner Robert Sarver for his decision to stick with the current roster even though there were opportunities to slash payroll.

With 29 games to play, Phoenix is in ninth place in the West, a half-game behind Utah for the conference's eighth and final playoff spot.

The Suns, 2-0 under Alvin Gentry, host Oklahoma City tonight, then host the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics in a nationally televised game on Sunday.
