Maricopa's oldest cold case cracked with a guilty verdictPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A guilty verdict finalizes what was once called Maricopa County's oldest cold case.
A jury found Mark Merila guilty of two counts of first degree murder and two counts of kidnapping for the 1984 death of two teenagers.
The bodies of the teens were found in the desert outside Phoenix.
Some 22 years later, DNA evidence collected at the scene led investigators to Merila.
His sentencing is set for December 5th.
