1 Killed, 2 hurt in Interstate 19 wreckPosted: Updated:
The following is a news release from the Arizona Dpeartment of Public Safety
This morning at 2:29 AM officers from the Department of Public Safety responded to a collision located on southbound Interstate 19 at kilometer 100 in Tucson.
A red 2006 Kenworth truck tractor pulling a belly dump trailer was southbound on I-19 in the middle lane of traffic. A blue 2001 BMW four door sedan was traveling southbound on Interstate 19. Witnesses stated that the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes in an erratic manner. The BMW struck the rear of the commercial vehicle and stopped in between the middle and outside lanes of travel. The commercial vehicle came to a controlled stop at the side of the road.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, Saloman Saenz, 39 years from Tucson, AZ. was transported from the scene to a local area hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. It is unknown if he was wearing a safety belt at the time of the collision.
The driver of the BMW, William J. Rodriguez, 35 years old, from Tucson, AZ. was deceased at the scene. The passenger in the BMW, David Scott, 23 years old from Tucson, AZ. was transported from the scene to a local area hospital with critical injuries. Neither the driver or the passenger was wearing a safety belt at the time of the collision.
The investigation is on going. It is unknown at this time if impairment was a factor in this collision.
