Huge fire tears through vacant downtown building in PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Crews spent the early morning hours battling a huge fire at an abandoned office complex in downtown Phoenix Friday.
The fire broke out shortly before 4 a.m., and flames were visible for miles and heavy smoke smothered the neighborhood.
When they arrived on the scene, firefighters immediately called out more crews.
Discovering that the building was vacant, fire crews decided they best thing they could do was protect nearby buildings and keep the flames from spreading.
While they don't know how the fire started, firefighters believe it might be suspicious.
Roosevelt Street was closed between Central Avenue and Seventh Street for hours.
