MESA -- At least 11 people, four of them children, cannot return home after a fire ripped through their apartment complex.

According to the Mesa Fire Department, a child called 911 to report the fire just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire forced residents to evacuate the complex at Dobson and Main,

A total of four units were damaged, leaving 11 people temporarily homeless.

The Red Cross is helping those families.

Fire crews responded to an apartment complex located near the intersection of San Jose and Main street in Mesa.

Smoke could be seen pouring from the eaves of the complex as residents watched from the curb of the street.

No word on what caused the fire or how much damage has been done.
