San Luis border crossing to nearly double in sizePosted: Updated:
YUMA, Ariz. (AP) -- Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2011 on a project that will almost double the size of a border crossing at San Luis.
The crossing has six vehicle lanes but plans call for it to have 11 by the time renovations are completed.
In an area where private vehicles currently cross, three lanes will be dedicated to buses with passengers, recreational vehicles, bicycles and motorcycles. The lanes will be designated as high occupancy vehicle lanes.
Project director Anthony Kleppe says all renovations should be completed by 2013, with strong benefits for the region.
