Schools on lockdown while police seach for suspectsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A police situation Friday afternoon in a neighborhood near 91st Avenue and Highland lead to lockdowns and evacuations.
Westwind Elementary School at 89th Avenue and Campbell and Westwind Intermediate School were on lockdown. Parents weren't allowed to pick up their children and those parents and children at school weren't allowed to leave as a safety precaution.
The Pendergast Elementary School District headquarters was also on lockdown.
A nearby apartment complex was evacuated during the SAU situation.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 3:00 p.m. by a victim who had gone to the area to contact a friend, but instead was forced into the garage of an abandoned house.
There police say the victim was beaten by two to three individuals at gunpoint.
The victim was able to escape to call police who responded to the house with the Special Assignment Unit,
Phoenix police said they thought they had the suspects holed-down in that house, but it turned out they were not in the home.
