Some GOP candidates shed party labelPosted: Updated:
ALAMOGORDO, N.M. --In this year's election climate, numerous Republicans running for office have campaign signs and mailings that don't mention the R-word.
They're stepping back a bit from their party, if not distancing themselves outright.
As University of Arizona political science professor Bill Dixon puts it: "It's not a good day to be a Republican, that's for sure." said Bill Dixon, a University of Arizona political science professor.
Even in traditionally Republican-friendly Arizona, some GOP state legislative candidates are being cautious.
It's long been common for Arizona Democrats running for the Legislature to omit party affiliations on signs or mailers. That's not surprising, given the party's long-standing minority status at the Arizona statehouse.
This year, many Republican candidates' mailers make no mention of party.
