One of those families is sifting through the rubble of their home, looking for personal belonging.
Crews were called out to the house near 18th Street and Bell Road shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.
A family of four was home with the fire broke out.
"We did have a person trapped in the backyard. We had to deploy hand lines to get him out," said Capt. Dorian Jackson of the Phoenix Fire Department. "We did transport one victim to the hospital, a 70-year-old woman with third-degree burns to her legs."
Both of those people are expected to recover.
The house, however, was destroyed.
The other fire was at 43rd Avenue and Sweetwater.
It's not clear how it started, but firefighters said the flames were mostly on the back patio.
Firefighters were able to rescue the family's pets from the burning home.
No injuries were reported.
