Rimrock resident confronts armed man in his yardPosted: Updated:
RINROCK - The following is a press release from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office:
On October 6, 2008, at approximately 10 P.M., Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a reported assault in the 3700 block of Beaver Creek Road, Rimrock. The victim told deputies someone came into his yard and tried to shoot him. The victim, also armed, fired back and thought he hit the suspect.
The victim explained he had been alerted to the suspect after hearing his dogs barking outside while he was inside his home with his wife and children. He went out on his back steps and heard the rustling of brush adjacent to his property. As he walked further into his yard, he saw a male standing among the weeds and tried to speak with him. The man started to run away, then turned and fired a round from a handgun towards him. The victim fired a round in return and thought he may have hit the suspect who appeared to tumble down an embankment. Neither the victim nor his family was injured.
The victim's home was checked, and there was no evidence of a bullet striking the house. Deputies conducted a thorough search of the area around the victim's home and found no indication someone had been injured or used a firearm.
The victim described the suspect as an Hispanic or Native American, medium build, dark complexion, and wearing dark colored shorts and a black "hoodie" type sweat shirt.
A neighbor confirmed hearing two gunshots, but did not see the confrontation as described by the victim.
