Mexican drug cartels using U.S. weapons

PHOENIX - A bloody battle is underway between the Mexican drug cartels and 3TV shows you how they are arming themselves with guns from the United States.

Heavy duty fire power has been seized from the streets of Arizona in just the past two weeks. A stash of weapons was likely on its way to Mexico where a war between drug cartels is in full swing.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) tells 3TV that 95% of the weapons seized from violent criminals in Mexico came from the U.S.

Assault rifles, armor piercing bullets and hand grenades seized were likely headed south of the border.

Agents caution those who say "Who cares? It's happening in Mexico."

The war on the border is increasing on both sides. The Mexican government is seeding federal police to battle the crime but border leaders fear it is not enough.

Now it is all eyes on Washington to see if a new administration can bring new answers.

The Border Patrol has plans this year to deploy an additional 19,000 agents along the U.S.-Mexico border.
